On the suggestion of my friend Peter we booked the Full Day Landscape photography course. We each have a digital 'bridge' camera but of different makes. My camera, a Canon Power Shot SX50 HS, had been set to Auto ever since I bought it some four yeras ago and I really hadn't a clue about all the other facilities that the camera offers and even less about their functions. In reviewing the course and my experience, I wish to reiterate what the attendees of the same course have written below and therefore respectfully advise that you take time to read a few. In short, I found it to be an excellent course and very well organised. Jack and Jamie, our tutors for the day, were both very informative and took both Peter and myself through each stage of the course using, as an aid, a very well designed and structured 34 page laminated A5 sized guidebook (which you get to keep) whilst using our own camera. The lunch provided by Jack's wife Alison is both excellent and generous and there is a good supply of tea, coffee, water, homemade flapjacks and muffins throughout the day. Alison is also responsible for the course booking and all associated administration a role for which she has to be comended. The three locations on Exmoor that we went to are chosen specifically to meet the required learning in line with the course which which, is clever as you get to witness what you can achieve with your very own camera. Nothing on the course is purely theoretical or hypothetical but it is certainly........practical.
It has to be pointed out how reasonable Exmoor Photography is and what excellent service they provide their clients. Firstly, you don't feel like client you feel like a friend who needs a bit of practicable help and it is literally "welcome to our home" when you first meet Jack, Alison and Jamie. On the day that Peter and I attended our course it rained so Jack decided to terminate the day and reappoint for the following week stating that the structure of the course requires a full day for the benefit of the client . Disappointing?.....not at all. We paid a small donation, suggested by Jack, to cover the days overheads - fuel, food, drinks which was fair and I got a couple or so hours sort of free tuition.
What great company Jack and Jamie are. Knowledgeable, patient, understanding and friendly.
Would I go on another Exmoor Photography course? - Yes
Oh, just to mention that I don't use 'Auto' on my camera any more......except for emergencies....now, how good is that.
